On April 26, 2014 at around 1:35 PM Christopher Fohlen (30) of Santa Rosa was driving a 2004 Ford in the northbound lane of Hwy 49 near San Domingo Creek at an unknown speed.
Mark Lewis (59) of Angels Camp was driving a 2002 Harley Davidson in the Southbound traffic lane of Hwy 49 at approximately 55 MPH, approaching the Ford.
Fohlen, due to his alleged intoxicated state, allowed the Ford to travel to the left of the solid double yellow center line and into the path of the motorcycle.
Lewis was unable to avoid the Ford which sideswiped the Harley. The Ford then fled the scene traveling northbound on Hwy 49.
Fohlen was subsequently located on Hwy 49 at Toyanza Drive in San Andreas and taken into custody for allegedly driving under the influence and for hit and run.
After this collision, Lewis remained upright on the Harley, turned around and accelerated northbound on Hwy 49 in an attempt to close the distance with Fohlen's Ford in order to obtain a license plate number from the Ford.
While attempting to do so, the Harley was subsequently involved in a second traffic collision on Hwy 49 near San Domingo Creek.
Refer to the next accident report for further details regarding second collision.
