Traffic accident and arrest in Mountain Ranch

According to CHP an accident in Mountain Ranch occurred on June 29, 2014 at approximately 6:50 PM.

Per CHP Tyler Gress (21) of Railroad Flat was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt eastbound on Railroad Flat Road, east of Sheep Ranch Road at a speed greater than 55 MPH.

Gress was looking down at the car radio and when he brought his attention back to the roadway ahead of him, he claimed a squirrel ran into the road in front of the Chevy.

Gress applied the brakes and attempted to correct the Chevy's path of travel.  Gress was unable to maintain control of the Chevy and the Chevy traveled off the paved roadway where it collided with a wire fence.

Gress related that he made no attempt to try and steer the Chevy back onto the road, just steered right and left to avoid hitting trees.

The Chevy then collided with another portion of wire fence and came to rest.  Gress was avaluated on scene and subsequently placed under arrest for allegedly driving while under the combined influence of drugs and alcohol.

Gress was transported to Mark Twain Medical Center for treatment of his injuries and then booked at the Calaveras County Jail.
