According to Sgt Anthony Eberhardt at the Calaveras Sheriff's Office, on July 26, 2014 around 3 PM a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a Ford Cargo Van with expired registration.
Upon contacting the driver, the deputy noticed the strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
The driver identified as Darryl Lasater (54) of Keyes, initially admitted to having marijuana in the vehicle for his own personal use.
Lasater later admitted to transporting the marijuana from Calaveras County to an unknown location and did not possess a doctor's recommendation for the marijuana.
During a search of the vehicle, the deputy discovered TWENTY large Home Depot moving boxes filled with marijuana.
On July 29, 2014 the Calaveras Narcotics Unit served a search warrant on the van and contents, discovering over 200 lbs of processed and unprocessed marijuana.
The estimated street value is over $100,000.
Darryl Lasater was arrested and booked for alleged Felony possession of marijuana over an ounce, Felony Possession of marijuana for sale, Felony transportation of marijuana, cultivation of marijuana, driving with a suspended license and expired registration.
Lasater posted $36,250 bail and was released from the Calaveras County Jail.
