2 Murders for Insurance Money? One in Calaveras??

After the death of his first wife Christine in Calaveras County in 1991, Karl Karlsen took his son, and the $200,000 insurance money and moved to upstate New York.

He remarried, a woman named  Cindy, who watched as he put a $700,000 life insurance policy on his own grown son, who died in 2008 when the truck he was working on fell off its jacks and crushed him.

Apparently Karlsen took that money and invested in a $1.2 million life insurance policy on Cindy. It was then when the new Mrs. Karlsen went to authorities, wore a wire, and got a confession out of her husband that he had killed his son by knocking the jacks out from under the vehicle.

Now Karlsen waits in a New York prison for extradition to California, where Calaveras County plans to try him for what they now believe was the murder of his first wife for the money.
