As of 8:15 AM September 17, 2014 the King Fire in El Dorado County has grown to 18,544 acres and is still only 5% contained. The cause has still not been determined.
Hwy 50 is closed both directions from Sly Park to Fresh Pond. They are trying to start backfires to keep it from jumping Hwy 50. Massive evacuations have been taking place as thousands of homes and other structures are threatened in the area.
