Raffle basket for CHILDREN? Karen Strohmeyer HELPS a non-profit???? Part 4

In December of 2009, Karen Strohmeyer, who at that time sat as a Board member on a children's non-profit, was put in charge of the raffle baskets, selling tickets, etc. at a large function.
I had offered to help her reputation and we thought we could trust her, as we did all of our wonderful, hardworking Board members.

Patrick Strohmeyer had been off work for some time and attended with Karen Strohmeyer.

Right away there were complaints; about an old fat couple making out at the raffle area, seemingly questionable behavior of the raffle chairperson and the tickets, and on and on.  Karen Strohmeyer had complained that she had no money at all to several people, including myself.

At the end of the event, Karen Strohmeyer drew her OWN name out of the can (NEVER ALLOWED) and then failed to turn in the raffle basket that she said was unclaimed, the purchased tickets, etc. as she knew was required.

At the next Board meeting, her husband Patrick Strohmeyer parked his vehicle right next to the door with the motor running, which everyone thought was odd.

Each chair reported on their job from the event and then it was Karen's turn. When asked about the raffle, she said she really did win a basket, (AGAINST THE RULES), and when asked where the other basket (worth about $500) was. And where are the ticket stubs and the name of the winner who wasn't present?

Karen Strohmeyer stated she has brought it back and sat it on a desk. I pointed out that she could not have. I never saw her come back to the building at all and I was sitting next to that desk, which was full of children's costumes.

After she left, other Board members discussed the questionable behavior and whether we should report it to the Sheriff. The Board did not want publicity about possible theft in our group, so it was not reported. This happens way too often in non-profits.

Karen Strohmeyer, who had just been elected Treasurer, was never allowed to be put on the children's bank accounts and never allowed at another meeting of the group as a result of this activity, effectively removing her completely from the Board.

Unfortunately, you are right. This is far too common in non-profits. Dirty rotten no good scum.
