Dear Editor:
Over the course of the past ten years, the board of the Murphys Community Club (MCC) has received many requests from local residents to construct bocce courts in or around Murphys Park.
The initial effort began in 2008 with the formation of interested volunteers joining a committee and enlisting the talents of a then local landscape architect to draw up professional plans.
Unfortunately, due to property line issues, those plans were thwarted and the project was shelved for future consideration.
In late 2013 the MCC board formed a partnership with Angels-Murphys rotary Club to revisit the project, and with the assistance of District 3 Supervisor Merita Callaway and the Calaveras County staff, a new location for the courts was selected and the project is now well underway.
During my nine years of serving on the MCC board, Supervisor Callaway has been an active participant in assisting to resolve numerous concerns involving safety, security, and signage issues relating to Murphys Park.
She did this even before the park was in her district. She has always made herself available and provides representation from other individuals in the County areas when necessary.
Her tireless efforts in 2012 working with the County regarding signage regulations are evident each time drivers pass the green MCC "Welcome to Murphys" sign located on Highway 4 just outside of town.
I hope you will vote for Merita Callaway on November 4: Experience Counts - you can't deny that.
Suzanne Friedman
President, Murphys Community Club
