Doris LaRayne Gilmore, born May 11, 1925, died of natural causes on November 18, 2014 in Angels Camp, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Born in Beresford, South Dakota,
she moved to California in 1945, where she secured a secretarial position with the Army Signal Corps.
In 1947 she married the love of her life, Campbell E. Gilmore, and they were happily married until his passing in 1993.
Prior to moving to Angels Camp in 2001, to be near her family, she lived in Apple Valley for 39 years.
During her early years in Apple Valley, she was co-owner of LaRayne's Liquors and Delicatessen.
She was a member of the Pilot's Club, Secretary to the Women's Auxilliary of the VRW Squadron 2265 and very active in her church, Hi-Desert Church of the Valley.
She was an active volunteer with Friends of the Library in Apple Valley and was instrumental in helping the fundraising project to build a new library.
She loved to cook, read, do cross-word puzzles, play the piano and spend time with her family and pets.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Diane Bateman, son-in-law Mark, granddaughter Lindsey Bateman-Rivas, Jeffry Rivas and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Campbell E. Gilmore, and son Campbell D. Gilmore, parents Albert and Emma McCormick, six brothers and sisters Lloyd, Della, Delbert, Betty, Ruby and Dale.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time. A small, family service will be held at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Apple Valley.
Doris' family would like to especially thank the staff of Foothill Village for the love and excellent care they extended every day to Doris and her family, ensuring her final days were as comfortable as possible.
