to squash it, the will of the people be damned.
When it passed, then California Attorney General Dan Lundgren, towing the government's anti-marijuana line, declared that Prop 215 did not legalize medical marijuana - it merely gave the accused the possibility of an affirmative defense.
In other words, it didn't matter a white that you had a medical reason for using marijuana. Prop 215 did not bar the arrest of patients or prosecuting them for possession of marijuana (or, in the case of caregivers like myself, for providing it to the sick and dying)
All it did was give you a "chance" for acquittal at trial.
