UPDATE: CHP just issued their official report on the collision:
On December 27, 2014 at approximately 6:44 AM CHP units were dispatched to a report of a solo vehicle collision with the driver unresponsive.
Upon our arrival, the 1997 Toyota Celica was found facing in a north-westerly direction on Camanche Parkway South, with its right front end collided into a dirt embankment.
The driver and solo occupant was pronounced deceased by an on-scene paramedic. This collision is still under investigation.
The name of the deceased has not yet been released, but he was a 54 year old from Oakdale. The Calaveras County Coroner will release further information.

DATE at 7:15 AM: Be extra cautious in that area as emergency vehicles will be on scene, possible for some time. A tow truck has now been dispatched.
December 27, 2014 at 7 AM: A fatal traffic collision has occurred at South Camanche Parkway and Campo Seco Road on the Calaveras County side of Lake Camanche.
Four CHP units and the coroner have been sent to the scene. We have no other details at this time.
