All elected officials and those they appoint need to understand that "If they can't take the heat, they need to get out of the frying pan."
Do not threaten the press as an unfortunate District 5 candidate did over and over again to several publications. It will cost you your "retirement" second term.
As Ms. Callaway well knew, you just ignore it or learn from it, but you cannot tell the press what to write about you. You also cannot ignore their questions, as that will go against you.
You can try to make friends or as they say "make deals" to the benefit of the residents of your district with many people, but THREATENING letters or verbal statements to the press only creates the opposite of what you want.
It will be used against you! It's called FREEDOM OF THE PRESS and where elected and appointed officials are concerned, you better get GOOD legal advice, unlike that so unfortunate one.

You tell em. Keep on keeping us informed. Thanks
This is so true. Elected officials have to expect to get some bad press. They either take it in stride llike callaway or start looking like fools like Mr. Spellman.
If elected people want good press, they need to do good things.
You're correct about the appointed people too. Maybe they should all be informed that they are now under the same press policies as the person who appointed them. Lots of scrutiny.
It should be told to them by the elected person if they are appointed. We elect some dummies!
