OP-ED....Myths and Facts about Climate Change #1--Who needs snow?

   There is a lot of talk on both sides these days about what causes climate change; humans, their activities, or just natural changes.

   We live in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, a significant expanse of forest, without which we will have NO SNOW, and hence, no water in the summer! Myth or fact? You decide!


    During the Clinton Presidency, science proved that the best defense against climate change is to allow forests to grow naturally, and until he left office, we had good snow years.

   Now that clear-cutting has been making an ugly patchwork of our Sierra Nevada Mountains, if you count the patches and the lessening snowpack, its easy to see the changes.

   Also, the amount of carbon released into the biosphere is dramatic due to clear-cutting. This brings about more rapid warming of our earth in general.  SPI owners get rich; the earth loses!  If it continues, there will be no going back!!
