According to CHP on April 14, 2015 around 7:55 PM Ronald N. Richarson (41) of Sonora was driving his 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche on South Fork Road in the Phoenix Lake area, southbound at a speed in excess
of the posted limit (25 MPH).
Per the report, Mr. Richardson failed to maintain his vehicle on the roadway, driving off the west road edge and partially down a steep embankment where the Avalanche struck a tree.
The tree stopped the forward movement of the Avalanche, which then rolled over multiple times to the bottom of the steep embankment.
Mr. Richardson, who appeared not to be wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision, was ejected during the rollover, and sustained major head injuries.
Alcohols, according to CHP, appears to be the primary factor in the collision. Mr. Richardson was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
The Avalanche sustained major damage and was a total loss. Richarson was Life-Flighted to Doctor's Hospital in Modesto.
