Donald Lloyd Mitchell, age 95, passed away peacefully at his home in Murphys on June 18, 2015 with his two daughters at his side.
Donald was born in Fresno and graduated from high school in Oakland. He married Janice Jean Pike in 1941.
When WWII began, he joined the Navy and served in the South Pacific. On his return, he followed in his father's footsteps and became a printer. He worked for the Modesto Bee as a linotype operator and a machinist for 27 years.
After retiring, Don and Jan moved to Murphys where he enjoyed golf, computers, piloting airplanes, playing his guitar and riding his Moto Guzzi.
Donald is survived by his two daughters Susan (Vaughn)Tribble of Murphys and Sally (Bob) Ochoa of Modesto. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Douglas (Monica) Tribble, Derrick (Lori) Tribble of Murphys, Allison (Donny) Martin of Turlock, Erik (Tracy (Van Wier of Rancho Palos Verdes, Jeremy (Christina) Van Wier of Redondo Beach and 10 great-grandchildren. He also leaves his companion of 10 years, Joyce Schoettgen of Sonora.
He was preceded in death by Janice, his wife of 63 years, infant daughter, brother Philip and great-grandson Brennan Tribble.
