UPDATE by CHP on August 3, 2015 at 9:30 AM: According to the report Robert Alan Caulk (53) of Cameron Park was driving a 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle east on Hwy 4 at Upper Moran Road at an
unknown rate of speed.
Gerardo Dagio (45) of Murphys was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on Hwy 4 near Upper Moran at a speed of 35 MPH.
The motorcycle was unable to negotiate a curve in the roadway and collided head-on with the Chevrolet.
CPR was performed by an on site paramedic, but the motorcyclist was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The collision is still under investigation and a toxicology report for drugs and alcohol is pending.

UPDATE at 5:45 PM: Hwy 4 is now reopened.
UPDATE at 4:30 PM: The Calaveras Coroner was just called.
UPDATE: The Emergency Notification and Tactical Alert Center was notified in Calaveras.
UPDATE at 3:40 PM: Hwy 4 is now closed between Lower Moran Road in Avery to Big Trees State Park. No estimated time is listed for re-opening. One-way traffic control is in effect.
UPDATE at 3:15 PM: Tow truck is stuck in traffic as Hwy 4 is blocked.
UPDATE: One vehicle involved was a motorcycle.
An ambulance and tow truck have been dispatched to the scene.
August 2, 2015 at 3 PM: CHP is en route to a traffic collision on Hwy 4 at Upper Moran above Arnold.
Use extra caution if in that area.
