According to CHP on September 21, 2015 around 6:40 PM a 74 year old San Marcos resident was driving a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on Hwy 108 west of Georges Drive in Strawberry at an undetermined speed in a left hand bend in the roadway.
For an unknown reason the driver allowed the Jeep to veer to the right, off the roadway and down a dirt/grass embankment.
The Jeep collided with multiple trees and boulders, while overturning down the embankment.
As a result of the collision the driver sustanined fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger, Bill Liles Lewis (74) of Oceanside, was flown from the scene of the collision to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with major injuries.
Alcohol and or drug intoxication does not appear to be a factor in this collision.
