UPDATE at 7:20 PM: Hard closure on Hwy 26 at Mokelumne Hill Elementary School. Caltrans says it will be another hour before they arrive.
People in Ebbetts Pass are smelling the smoke from the Butte Fire. The sunset is not just sunset. It is smoke.
UPDATE at 7 PM: Caltrans is still attempting to get a crew together to help with Hwy closures. Fire is now down to Hwy 26.
UPDATE at 6:50 PM: Structures are immediately threatened
on Montgomery Road near Candy Circle in Mokelumne Hill.. One home is nearly gone and another is soon to be aflame.
Once this fire jumped the Mokelumne River, it headed directly for Mokelumne Hill. Hwy 26 is closed at Happy Valley Road.
UPDATE at 6:45 PM: We just heard a sad statement on the scanner. Acreage is now 500
acres and at least a few homes are going to be gone in Calaveras County.
UPDATE at 6:35 PM: Caltrans has been requested for hard closure on Hwy 26.
UPDATE at 6:20 PM: Immediate threat has been issued for homes on Montgomery Road
off Hwy 26. Attempts are being made to divert aircraft from the Pacheco Fire to the Butte Fire.
A warning has been issued for Calaveras County
for fire growth towards homes tonight. CHP is also assisting in keeping traffic out of the area.
UPDATE at 6:15 PM 10 more engines and crews have been dispatched and called branch 3 of the Butte Fire in Calaveras County. Mandatory evacuations have just been issued
for Hwy 26 in the fire area. Now 160 acres in size and 30% contained.
The Calaveras County Sheriff is being dispatched to evacuated Montgomery Road area off Hwy 26. BLM access to the Mokelumne River is closed.
UPDATE at 6 PM: Last acreage was stated at around 50 acres and growing. It has now jumped the Mokelumne River and is headed up the other ridge. There are many nice
homes on top of that ridge. The fire is now in Calaveras County.
Three air tankers and four helicopters are now assigned to this fire.
Butte Mountain Road, Clinton Road, Taramouga Ranch Road and Amador Lane are closes. At least one barn has reportedly been destroyed.
UPDATE at 3:05 PM: Butte Fire is approximately 20 acres at this time. Two more helicopters have been requested.
September 9, 2015 at 2:50 PM: A fire reported off Hwy 88 on Butte Mountain Road has gone down into the Mokelumne drainage area, spotting into at least two fires now. This is in Jackson.
Cal Fire is en route, along with water tenders, a helicopter and several engine companies. Is being called the Butte incident.
