According to CHP on October 31, 2015 around 7:45 AM Timothy Sloan (67) of Valley Springs was driving a 2005 Volkswagen Phaeton westbound on Hwy 26, west of Olive Branch Drive at an unknown rate of speed.
For unknown reasons, Sloan allowed the Volkswagen to travel to the left, across the eastbound lane and onto the dirt shoulder.
the front end of the Volkswagen collided with a wooden utility pole and came to rest against the pole, facing in a westerly direction.
As a result of the impact with the pole the PG&E regulator banks that were attached to the top of the pole became dislodged and fell onto the vehicle.
The Volkswagen then caught fire and became fully engulfed in flamed. Multiple vehicles pulled over when they observed the vehicle catch fire and assisted Sloan out of the vehicle, getting him to a location of safety on the north road edge of Hwy 26.
Sloan was transported to Mark Twain Hospital with moderate injuries.
Alcohol/Drugs are not believed to be a factor in this collision. The collision is till under investigation. If you have any information please call the San Andreas CHP office at 754-3541.
