At the Calaveras Board of Supervisors meeting on January 12, 2016 direction was given to staff of Human Resources to allow applicants from outside the Sheriff's Office to apply for the position of
Sheriff, left absent when Gary Kuntz died.
The Human Resources department is to review the applicants and pass the best 3-5 applicants on to the Board of Supervisors, who will make the decision of who to appoint.
It was clear that the internal employees (both Ballard and DeBasilio) didn't want anyone from outside the Sheriff's Office to be considered so there would be no changes. That raised a RED FLAG with many.
