Hwy 16 was closed for several hours, but has now reopened. |
The officer didn't notice a car had stopped in front
of the patrol car and rear-ended the car, sending it into the oncoming lane, where it crashed head-on with another vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle that was hit by the CHP unit died at the scene. Several others, including the CHP officer were taken to the hospital.

March 29, 2016 at 5:55 AM: Hwy 16 is closed in Amador County due to an overnight traffic collision that was fatal.
Apparently a CHP unit was somehow involved in this collision. We don't have other details at this time. Avoid the area if possible while investigation is being conducted.
