James Leonard March was born on September 17, 1918 in Richmond. He was 97 years old when he passed away of a stroke
on March 29, 2016 in Suisun City with his youngest son Jerry.
He graduated from high school in the Bay Area, was a 2nd Officer in the Merchant
Marines, a 2nd Mate in the Coast Guard, served 33 years.
He was in WWII, Korea, and the Vietnam wars. He worked for Master Mates and the Pilots Union, for Standard Oil Richmond Refinery prior to the Merchant Marines.
After retiring he became a Master Gardener, grew all of his own vegetables and spent a lot of time fishing for salmon in Puget Sound, Washington.
James was predeceased by his wife Kathleen Erickson March.
He is survived by his three sons: John (Seattle, Washington), Patrick (San Andreas and Jerry March (Suisun City), Patrick's daughters Tammy Lynn March, Katrina LaRay March and 6 grandchildren; Jerry's daughters Amber Jean March, Elisa Anne Porter and 9 grandchildren; nieces and nephews Wendy, Lori, Steve and Johnny.
Viewing will be at 8:30 AM on Saturday April 2, 2016 at San Andreas Memorial Chapel and a graveside service will be held at 1 PM at People's Cemetery in San Andreas.
A gathering will be held at the VFW in San Andreas following the graveside service.
