Three vehicle collision on Hwy 49

According to CHP on April 27, 2016 around 8:30 PM Wyitt Carroll (36) of Murphys was driving a 2013 Chrysler northbound on Hwy 49 near Copello Drive at a high rate of speed.

An Angels Camp Police Officer was following the Chrysler with emergency lights activated in an attempt to make an enforcement stop.

Leslie Rhinehart (41) of Pine Grove was driving a 2015 Ford F250, also northbound on Hwy 49 ahead of the Chrysler.

David Pierce (54) of Mokelumne Hill was driving a 2012 Ford F550  southbound on Hwy 49 approaching the oncoming vehicles.

Per the report, Carroll allowed the front of his vehicle to collide into the left rear of  Rhinehart's.

Rhinehart was able to regain control of his Ford after the collision and slowly came to a stop on the shoulder.

Carroll lost control of his vehicle and spun into the southbound lane. Pierce had no time to avoid a collision and the front of his Ford pickup collided with the driver side of the Chrysler.

Pierce's Ford came to rest on its wheels, facing in an easterly direction, partially blocking the southbound lane.

The Chrysler came to rest on its wheels facing in a southeasterly direction partially blocking the northbound lane of Hwy 49.

Carrol was ejected from the Chrysler and came to rest on the east shoulder near the left front of the Chrysler.

Carroll was arrested for suspicion of DUI and released into the care of Modesto Memorial Hospital for major injuries.

Leslie Rhinehart refused transport for minor injuries.  David Pierce was transported to Mark Twain Hospital with minor injuries.
