No smoking in Stanislaus National Forest....

   Neither smoking nor campfires are permitted outside designated campground areas of the Stanislaus National Forest, due to fire hazards.

   Anyone caught not following these restrictions can be cited and fined.  Does that mean NO SMOKING at Candyrock Gun Range????

USFS Law Enforcement employee killed by Grizzly

   While riding his mountain bike, Brad Treat, a USFS Law Enforcement employee in Montana, surprised a Grizzly bear on the trail.

   The Grizzly knocked Treat off his bike and killed him. Now law enforcement is trying to find and kill the Grizzly.

Car over bank outside Angels Camp

   June 30, 2016 at 7 PM:  A car left Stallion Way at Gelding Road just outside Angels Camp and went over the embankment.

   Apparently there was some yelling going on after the crash. No injuries were indicated. CHP is en route to the scene.

  

Calaveras Planning Department receives over 800 registrants

   As of 4 PM on June 30, 2016 the Calaveras Planning Department had received over 800 registrants for cannabis farming in the County.

   According to Peter Maurer, Planning Director, it will take quite some time to review and process all the applications.  Some of them are personal or caregiver growers, but the bulk are commercial growers.

  

Arnold holds parade Saturday

   Supervisor Oliveira announced that he would be participating in a 4th of July parade in Arnold on Hwy 4 on Saturday morning.

   Caltrans has warnings up that Hwy 4 may be blocked through town from 9 til noon. Will he be PACKING!!! Be cautious, just in case!

Car struck twice on Hwy 26

   June 30, 2016 at 12:25 PM:  A vehicle on Hwy 26 near Oro Avenue reported that they had been struck twice by another vehicle just this side of Hwy 99 in Stockton.

   CHP is at the scene.  We don't know if there are injuries.

Big rig vs car in Turlock

   June 30, 2016 at 10:45 AM:  A big rig and a car collided on Hwy 99 near Linwood Ave. in Turlock and the car has overturned into a salvage yard.

   An ambulance is responding due to major injuries.  Be extra cautious if heading that way.

Dogs left in vehicles reported in Murphys

   Two different reports of Cruelty to Animals were made about dogs being left in cars on Main Street in Murphys on June 29, 2016.

   By the time the deputy arrived, the car could not be located. Do not leave your pets in the car in this heat!!

Burglary in Jenny Lind

   On June 29, 2016 a resident on Shelton Road in Jenny Lind reported a burglary.

   The Calaveras Sheriff's Office took a report.

Sheep Ranch man arrested

   On June 29, 2016 the Calaveras Sheriff's Office arrested Christopher John Trotter (44) of Sheep Ranch at his residence on Armstrong Road.

   Trotter was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for allegedly Possessing Prohibited Ammunition, Evading a Police Officer with disregard for Safety, both felonies and for Obstruction or Resisting Arrest, Driving with a Suspended license for DUI, misdemeanors, plus two infractions for no front plate and no proof of financial responsibility.  Trotter also had outstanding warrants.

Arrest for Forgery in San Andreas

   On June 29, 2016 the Calaveras Sheriff's Office arrested Tanya Dawn Carrillo (40) of San Andreas on Broadway Street.

   Carrillo was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged Forgery and 2nd degree Burglary, both felonies and for Obstruction or resisting Arrest, a misdemeanor.

Deadline to register Cannabis grows 4 PM TODAY

   Don't forget that today, June 30, 2016 is the deadline to register your cannabis farm with the Calaveras County Planning Department.

   If you are not on the list by 4 PM today, you will have to wait until 2018 to start a legal growing operation in Calaveras.

Trailhead Fire UPDATE

   June 30, 2016 at 5:30 AM:  The Trailhead Fire has now grown to over 1000 acres and is 12% contained.

   2600 homes are threatened.  Evacuations are still taking place. No homes have been lost to this point.

Tree down on Pool Station Road

   June 29, 2016 at 6:10 PM:  A tree has been reported down across Pool Station Road outside San Andreas.

   A crew is being dispatched to remove the tree, but be extra cautious if headed that way until the roadway is clear. 

Rancho Fire in Ione/Campo Fire at Camanche

  We just learned that the Rancho Fire near Ione in Amador County is 100% contained.   It burned 372 acres.

   The Campo Fire is now 75% contained at 33 acres on the Calaveras County side.

Mailbox hit and run

   June 29, 2016 at 3:25 PM:  A resident on Berkesey Drive in  Rancho Calaveras reported that a car knocked down their mailbox, drug it 100' down the road and then fled the scene.

   Unfortunately for them, their license plate came off at the scene. CHP is en route to investigate.

Trailhead Fire continues to grow

   The Trailhead Fire in El Dorado and Placer Counties is now 650 acres with only 5% containment.

  Evacuations are still taking place. CalFire is asking for help in determining the cause of this fire, which started in a remote area often frequented by rafters.  Please call 1-800-468-4408 to leave an anonymous tip.

Head-on crash in Patterson

   June 29, 2016 at 12:45 PM:  A head-on collision involving three cars was reported at Hwy 33 and Rogers Road in Patterson.

   An ambulance and other emergency personnel are responding to the scene.

Bank of America building in Arnold auctioned off

   The Bank of America building in Arnold, being vacated in July by BofA, was sold at auction today.

   The bidding just closed. According to the website the property went for $575,000, which was lower than the reserve the owner had on it. That's a lot of money for property in Arnold.

Embezzlement and Grand Theft at OReilly Auto Parts

   On June 28, 2016 Angels Camp Police officers arrested Nicholaus Michael Lopez (22) of Valley Springs at OReilly Auto Parts in Angels Camp.

   Lopez was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged Embezzlement, Grand Theft and Forgery, all felonies.

   UPDATE:  Per CHP, no injuries were indicated in this collision.

Trailhead Fire near Foresthill

  June 29, 2016: The Trailhead Fire nearly doubled in size overnight. Air tankers and helicopters are back in the air this morning.

   The total acreage so far is 350 acres and containment is only 5%. Evacuations continue.  We saw several Calfire camp vehicles heading that way earlier.

Rancho Fire in Amador County

   The Rancho Fire near Ione in Amador County has burned 350 acres but we are told forward progress has been stopped.

   This fire is now 30% contained.

Time to legalize marijuana

   The initiative to legalize marijuana in California, led by former Facebook President Sean Parker, received more than enough signatures to be placed on the November 2016 ballot.

   Behind many other states, California voters will decide if marijuana, like alcohol, should be legal for those over 21.  It's way past time to wake up and legalize cannabis, which is much safer for your body than alcohol or opioid drugs.

Trail Fire in Foresthill

   UPDATE:  The 250 acre Trail Fire is 200 acres in El Dorado County and 50 acres in Placer County so far.

Fire in Burson

  A fire in Burson, named the Campo Fire is off Campo Seco  and Chili Gulch Road and is now 33 acres in size.
 
    Containment is 60%.

Suspicious person on Hwy 4

   There was the most suspicious person on Hwy 4 in Ebbetts Pass awhile ago.  He was extremely obese, smoking a giant cigar and driving a red pickup, blocking a driveway, just barely off the highway.

  It was a very unusual sight and one that had to be reported. If you can identify this person, please send an email. Receding hairline, scary looking man.  A photo was taken of this man, as he appeared to be up to something.

   While Ponte and Oliveira see them as an absolute threat due to fire, Supervisor Kearney intends to bring in his non-profits and fire friends to help him keep his job; they will not vote to recall him if he continues to allow FIREWORKS sales!

Elections explains Recall petition filing time

   We had some questions about the way the Calaveras Elections department handled the recall petition of District 5 Supervisor Steve Kearney yesterday, June 27, 2016.

   According to Rebecca Turner,

Teeter Funds "SLUSH' funds in Calaveras County

   The teeter funds (money collected on past due taxes, etc) used to be held for certain items in the County, but no longer.

   Now, with a swish of the elbow, this money is used as a slush fund to help grow the county budget, especially when they are $8 million in debt.

   Rosemary Wilson asked during Public Comment why nothing had been done.  They never answered her question.

   On June 27, 2016 suspicious looking characters were reported in a parking lot on Mountain Ranch Road in San Andreas.

   It was apparently determined that it was the Tea Potty three: Calaveras Supervisors Kearney, Oliveira and Edson so no report was taken.

Cannabis Regulation Initiative approved

   June 27, 2016:  It's official that the ballot initiative to regulate Cannabis in Calaveras County had 2400 valid signatures.

    If our County Supervisors are smart, they will adopt it immediately, saving the taxpayers $172,000 on a consultant fee and replace the urgency ordinance. Are our elected Supervisors smart enough to do this?

Kelly Baird wins scholarship

   Kelly Baird of West Point is a four-year honor roll student at Calaveras, is in the Honors French Society, Student Council, drama, a 13 year member of Girl Scouts and President of West Point 4H.

   No wonder she was chosen as the recipient of the Calaveras Community Foundations' Beth Childs/Glenna Hurst Scholarship, a $4000 renewable college award.

PIckup goes over the side of New Priest Grade

   June 27, 2016 at 10:15 AM:  A white pickup has gone over the side of Hwy 120 at New Priest Grade outside Jamestown.

   They are trying to run ropes around 400' down to see who is in the vehicle. CHP is at the scene. Hwy 120 may be closed for awhile to recover the vehicle.

  UPDATE:  We just learned that Caltrans and CHP are now moving the big rig out of the pass. Should be open soon.

Erskine Fire at Lake Isabella Update

   On June 27, 2016 at 9 AM it was reported that the Erskine Fire is now at 45,388 acres, but the perimeter is now 40% contained.

   They are beginning an assessment to see if the 250 homes destroyed and 75 damaged is accurate.  The area is still under evacuation orders.

RECALL of District 5 Kearney moves forward....

   Although Steve Kearney, current Supervisor of Calaveras District 5 has tried everything, including stating he is moving the asphalt plant, people have not be fooled by him.

   Yesterday was the last day to collect signatures for the RECALL. Now they will get turned in and counted by the Elections Department.

City Council wants new City Hall--Raise FEES!!

   While discussion of raising all the fees in Angels Camp was going on at the recent City Council meeting, it was brought up that certain members of the City Council and especially the administrative golfer, want a NEW City Hall.

   One Councilperson made it clear that they believed that was why they want to raise all the fees, to get a new City Hall.   Sounds just like something our golf pro would be pushing.

Dog reported left in hot car in Murphys

   On June 26, 2016 the Calaveras Sheriff's Office was called to Sheep Ranch Road in Murphys where a small Chihuahua had been left in a hot car.

   Apparently the Sheriff's office took no report. Do NOT leave your animal in the car, even for a few minutes in this heat!! It can quickly die!

     The weekend box office was clearly in a fishing mode as movie goers chose a Disney movie over all the others.

  "Finding Dory" brought in $73.2 Million according to estimates on Sunday.

Supreme Court rules for Womens Choice

   The US Supreme Court this morning handed down a decision on the Texas restrictions to women's choice regarding clinics.

   In a 5-3 vote, the court said that Texas did not have the right to restrict a woman's right to choose by forcing clinics to become hospitals.

Erskine Fire Update: 43,000 acres

   As of June 26, 2016 at 8 PM the Erskine Fire was 43,460 acres with a perimeter containment of 40%.

   Over 250 homes have now been destroy and another 75 damaged.

Jack-knifed big rig on Hwy 4

   June 27, 2016 at 5:45 AM:  A big rig has been reported as jack-knifed on Hwy 4 between Mosquito Lake and Pacific Valley.

   What was a big rig doing on that narrow stretch of road?  CHP and a big rig tow are en route to the scene. Avoid the area as both lanes are blocked.

   Several people were injured today when a white supremacist group and an anti-racist group clashed while protesting each other.

    One person told us they thought they saw a couple of Calaveras racists in the crowd, but we have not been able to confirm that they were Calaveras KKK Project members.

   150 homes have been destroyed and another 75 damaged by this fire so far.

Ford Ranger rolls over on Hwy 88

   June 26, 2016 at 10:15 AM:  A Ford Ranger reportedly has overturned on Hwy 88 near Inspiration Drive in Pioneer.

4th of July parade in Mokelumne Hill

   On July 4, 2016 Mokelumne Hill will hold its annual parade on Main Street. It begins at 11 AM.

   There will be food, music and other vendors for your enjoyment. and at 7:30 AM the Veterans start serving breakfast for $ 5 each, ham, eggs, pancakes, etc.

Governor declares State of Emergency in Kern County

   June 25, 2016 at 6 PM:  The Erskine Fire in Kern County near Lake Isabella grew to 35,000 acres today and another 50 homes were destroyed.

   Containment is listed at 0%. Two people are known to have died in this fire.

Per Calaveras Supervisor Oliveira: Ford Consturuction Hiring

   According to District 3 Supervisor Oliveira, people in District 4 of Calaveras County, or Angels Camp, are thrilled to be getting a brand new ASPHALT PLANT.

   Located, according to Oliveira, in Carson Hill, Ford Construction will be hiring all kinds of employees, as they will have at least 100 trucks

Truck fire on Hwy 88

   June 25, 2016 at 3:30 PM:  A truck fire was reported on Hwy 88 at Jackson Valley Road in Jackson.

   The fire department is at the scene, along with CHP. A tow truck is en route to the scene.

Motorcycle collision on Hwy 108

   June 25, 2016 at 3:30 PM:  A motorcycle collision has been reported on Hwy 108 near Clarks Fork Road in the Dardanelle area above Pinecrest.

   CHP and an ambulance are en route to the scene. Use extra caution if headed that way.

Pickup runs off Hwy 26

   June 25, 2016 at 12:30 PM:  A white pickup reportedly ran off Hwy 26 at Woodhouse Mine Road in West Point.

   CHP is at the scene. An ambulance and tow truck are responding. Be cautious if in that area.

UPDATE on ASPHALT PLANT MOVE!!

  Per a reliable witness, the asphalt plant is still in Rancho Calaveras. One person told us that they saw parts being moved around, but not out of the Ford quarry there.

     Calaveras Supervisor Kearney clearly stated that the asphalt plant had been moved away. It is on film. Oliveira backed him up. Kearney would do anything to try and get out of a recall!!

West Point man arrested for Battery on a Peace Office

   On June 24, 2016 the Calaveras Sheriffs Office arrested Zacharia William Conder (no DOB) of West Point on Main and Hwy 26 in West Point.

   Conder was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged Battery on a Peace Officer, a felony and for Obstructing or resisting arrest and Disorderly Conduct due to Alcohol, both misdemeanors, along with several charges on outstanding warrants.

Calaveras Supervisor District 5 Steve Kearney lying again???

   At the Tuesday, June 21, 2016 Board of Supervisor meeting, Steve Kearney, Supervisor under recall of District 5, spoke before anyone else.

UPDATE: Erskine Fire near Lake Isbella now 30,000 acres

  UPDATE:  As of 6 PM on June 24, 2016 the Erskine Fire is 30,000 acres.  Evacuations are in effect for 1500 homes.

10-year-old boy missing in Modesto Reservoir

   According to the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department four boys who had been in a paddle boat at Modesto Reservoir in Waterford, just of Hwy 132, jumped out to swim to shore.

   A 10-year-old could not make it and did not have a life preserver on. The Sheriff's Office has not yet located the boy.

Grass fire in Linden

   June 24, 2016 at 5 PM:  A grass fire has been reported at Clements Road and Comstock Road in Linden.

   CalFire is responding to the scene.

Sheriff deputies pursue motorcyclist

   According to the Calaveras Sheriff's Office on June 23, 2016 at approximately 10:50 PM deputies observed a motorcycle making unsafe lane changes.

   June 24, 2016 at 2:05 PM:  A traffic collision has been reported on Hwy 4 between Hunt Road an Pool Station Road in the Copperopolis area.

DOW down 610 points

   Whether for political, emotional or financial reasons, the Brexit has caused markets around the world to sell-off.

   The DOW lost 610 points today.  Rick Santelli of CNBC was ranting this morning that the Brexit should mean nothing, but it didn't convince anyone.

Grand Jury findings about Calaveras Sheriff's Department

   In the recent release of the 2015-16 Grand Jury report for Calaveras County, the most important aspect of their year of investigations was regarding complaints at the Calaveras Sheriff's Office.

Two arrests on Hwy 49

   On June 23, 2016 around 11:45 PM Calaveras Sheriff's deputies arrested Jacob Ryan Butler (30) of Valley Springs and Janae Luella Oboyle (28) of Reno, Nevada on Hwy 49 at Briski Hill near San Andreas.

   Butler and Oboyle was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged Possession of Controlled Substance for Sale, a felony, along with other charges.

UPDATE on Fire near Lake Isabella

  June 24, 2016:  The Erskine Fire near Lake Isabella in Kern County was first reported on June 23, 2016 around 4 PM and quickly escalated to what is this morning 8000 acres.

    Over 100 structures have already been lost and 1500 are threatened. CalFire has not been called in for this fire as it is on USFS land.  The cause has not been determined.

Prime Minister resigning

   After the historic vote to leave the European Union, which was initially set up as a way to try and prevent another WWII, Prime Minister David Cameron says he's resigning.

   Both he and Wall Street had it figured wrong. Emotion was the reason for the exit from the EU. Hate and isolationistic desires fueled the vote, not financial well-being.

UK votes to leave the European Union

     June 24, 2016:  Many were shocked to hear the results of the vote in the United Kingdom late last night.  Even the Prime Minister didn't realize how many anti-immigrant, isolationist, angry people would turn out to vote.

Arrest for Loaded Firearm in a Public Place

   On June 22, 2016 Calaveras Sheriff's deputies arrested Oscar Quinones, Jr. (unknown dob) of Burson on Hwy 12 and Southworth.

   Quinones was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for allegedly Carrying a Loaded Firearm in a Public Place, a misdemeanor, and released with a Citation.

  

Major injuries in Jamestown collision

   June 23, 2016 at 6:05 PM:  A traffic collision has been reported on Hwy 120 and Sims Road in Jamestown.

   An ambulance is responding due to major injuries.  Use extra caution if headed that way.

Water tender collision in Railroad Flat

   June 23, 2016 at 6 PM:  A full water tender has been reportedly involved in a traffic collision and is leaking fuel on Railroad Flat Road in Railroad Flat.

   We aren't sure if there was another vehicle involved, but an ambulance is responding to the scene. Use extra caution if in the area.   The driver is being treated at the general store.

Woman arrested for alleged threat

   On June 22, 2016 Calaveras Sheriff's deputies arrested Laura Jeanne Fultz (dob unknown) of San Andreas at her residence on High Country Road.

   Fultz was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for allegedly Making Threats with the Intent to Terrorize, a felony.

Traffic collision in Jamestown

   June 23, 2016 at 3 PM:  A traffic collision has been reported on Hwy 49 in Jamestown.

  It isn't known if there are injuries. Be cautious if in the area.

Calaveras Supervisors to pay Animal Assassin $66,000

   On June 21, 2016 Calaveras Sheriff's deputies arrested Jeremy Travis Pagano (34) of Arnold at the Arnold sub-station in Meadowmont Shoppting Center.

   Pagano was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for allegedly Threatening a Crime with the Intent to Terrorize, a felony.

Assault alleged in Copperopolis

  On June 21, 2016 Calaveras Sheriff's deputies arrested Melva Lee Lawhon (77) of Copperopolis at her residence on Beaver Court.

   Lawhon was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged Assault with a Deadly Weapon not a Firearm, Threatening a Crime with Intent to Terrorize, Grand Theft (over $950) and Cruelty to Animals, all felonies and for Defacing property with paint, a misdemeanor.

Collision on Hwy 99

   June 23, 2016 at 8:30 AM:  A traffic collision has been reported at northbound Hwy 99 at Liberty Road just outside Lodi.

   Lanes are blocked, one car is turned sideways. An ambulance is responding so be cautious if headed in that direction.

   It doesn't matter what the issue might be, if you have to be in court and draw Judge Healy, you need to complain.  Demand another judge!

   You have the right to demand another Judge for whatever type of case you have. Healy has too many prejudices, and is biased against anything to do with cannabis; we have seen him sign search warrants against women without even reading them (one case in which the only purpose was to take a woman's underwear home).

UPDATE: Ranch Fire quickly extinguished

   June 22, 2016 at 2:20 PM:  The Ranch Fire on Meacham Ranch Road in Angels Camp was reported at around 11:37 AM.

    By 11:45 AM crews had it contained at 1/4 acre. The cause is still under investigation.

Survey reveals 66 million dead trees in Sierras

      The US Forest Service announced on June 22, 2016 that it has identified 66 million dead trees in the Sierra Nevada region of California.

   The tree death is due to the drought and insects. Now they have to find a way to pay for cutting them down.

Logging truck loses log, hits car

   June 22, 2016 at 11:35 AM:  A logging truck lost a log and it rolled onto another car on Hwy 120 and Wards Ferry Road in Groveland.

   Terrifying, but no injuries were indicated. The logging company is en route to the scene.

Injured buck in Mokelumne Hill

   June 22, 2016  at 11:30 AM:  An injured buck has been reported on Hwy 26 at Main Street in Mokelumne Hill.

   CHP is en route to the scene. Use extra caution if headed that way.

Fires on American River Parkway

   Trails along the American River are subject to frequent fires, as are most all government created trails along waterways.

  We can expect that in Angels Camp, as the City is forcing a trail on residents of the Angels Creek area that they and their friends want access to. Crime, filth and fires will be the norm!  Such a nice idea, City Council!! 

Baptist Church asked to move

  The property manager of the building where the Baptist Church who praised the killing of the 49 in Orlando has asked the church to vacate the building immediately.

   The owner of the property does not want anyone in their units who advocate hate.

Dog kills duck in Railroad Flat

   On June 21, 2016 a resident on Railroad Flat Road in Railroad Flat reported a trespasser, who let his dog out and the dog killed one of her ducks.

   The male subject then left. No report was taken by the Calaveras Sheriff. The call was dropped apparently.

Burglary in Murphys

   On June 21, 2016 a burglary was reported by a resident on Algiers Street in Murphys.

   The Calaveras Sheriff's Office took a report.

Neighbor tries to run over cow in Copperopolis

     On June 21, 2016 a resident on Stagecoach Road in Copperopolis reported to the Calaveras Sheriff that a neighbor was trying to run over their cow with a truck because it had gotten into his field.

   The Calaveras Sheriff did not take a report of this incident.

Neighbor vs. neighbor with cane?

   On June 21, 2016 a resident on Beaver Road in Copperopolis reported to the Calaveras Sheriff that her neighbor came over with a cane and hit her and her dogs.

Two arrested for allegedly Injuring Child

     On June 20, 2016 the Angels Camp Police Department arrested Lacie Anne Francis Barge (41) of Angels Camp at Mark Twain Hospital in San Andreas.

   Barge was booked into the Calaveras County Jail

Dance Moms star to plead guilty

   Abby Lee Miller, the star of the hit TV show Dance Moms is scheduled to appear in Federal Court on Monday.

   It is believed that she will plead guilty to Bankruptcy fraud and to bringing in $10,000 in Australian money into the US without claiming it.

Camanche Fire 100% contained

  June 22, 2016:  We just received notice from CalFire that the Camanche Fire on the Amador County side of Lake Camanche is now 100% contained.

   It burned a total of 210 acres. We don't know the cause of this fire yet.

Tree blocking roadway in Jackson

   June 21, 2016 at 7:45 PM:  A tree has been reported down and blocking the roadway on Clinton Road in Jackson.

   A crew has been requested to clear it, but it may be awhile, so be extra cautious if in the area.

Calaveras County Counsel says neither Cannabis initiative verified yet!

   While most of us believed that today's Special Meeting was about the Initiatives that had been turned into the Calaveras Elections Department, County Counsel made it clear.

   According to Megan Stedfeldt the pro-cannabis initiative is still being verified for signatures.   We already know and heard the moans today, from the incompetent group who failed to handle the BAN initiative properly and it was thrown out.

    We thought we had seen extremists; both of the religious fanatic type and of the racist tea party type in Calaveras.

Calaveras Supervisors pass cannabis tax

   At a Special Meeting this morning, June 21, 2016 the Calaveras Supervisors passed an extension of the Cannabis Urgency Ordinance and a tax on all cannabis grown in Calaveras County.

   This is an excise tax, in addition to the state sales tax, based on canopy size of farms. Should bring in good money to the county, which Calaveras badly needs.

Apology to Supervisor Ponte for COWARDS

   Larry Bridges, of San Andreas got up to apologize at the Calaveras Supervisors meeting on June 21, 2016 to Supervisor Ponte.

   Bridges stated that he wanted to apologize to Supervisor Ponte on behalf of the residents of Calaveras for the COWARDLY attack Mr. Big Pot McmAnus and his
friend Alice Montgomery made on her at a previous meeting.

Judge Healy should be RECALLED!!

   It has been clear nearly from the beginning that Judge Healy was not a good judge. We have heard of him signing bad search warrants without even reading them.

   Now we see that he is a wacko right wing anti-cannabis judge and should be RECALLED!!  She mentions Supervisor Oliveira as one of them.  If you get Judge Healy in ANY case, you need to demand another judge. He will NOT be honorable or fair to anyone!!!

Calaveras Supervisors extend Cannabis Urgency Ordinance for a few months

   Putting pressure on what is likely to be brand new Calaveras Supervisors in 2017, District 5 Supervisor Kearney convinced the board to extend the Cannabis Urgency regulations only until the first Supervisor meeting of the elected board in 2017.

   There could be several new board members, since Kearney and Edson are likely to not be there, Wright will be replaced and Ponte is being replaced.

Deadline for registering Cannabis farms is June 30, 2016

   Don't forget if you are a commercial cannabis farmer in Calaveras County, you must register for your permit by June 30, 2016 at 4 PM.

   Sheriff DiBasilio says he will have deputies stationed outside the door of the Planning Department to stop any late arrivals from entering the building.

Nothing done at FIRE meeting in ARNOLD, Calaveras District 3!!

   A member of the public who did not state his name, says that he went to a fire meeting in Arnold last week where nothing got done.

   This is Mr. Oliveira's District 3 who cannot get ANYTHING done and people are complaining about him all the time.  He is a grower and a veteran and is not a criminal, and neither are these people here that are growers.  He also stated that the Veterans Administration is paying for veterans to have cannabis.

   A member of the public got up and told the Calaveras Board of Supervisors that they should worry about the METH problem in the County.

   The ban people love METH, BOOZE and tobacco, but want to BAN Cannabis!!

Sheriff DiBasilio asks for background checks

   Sheriff DiBasilio came up to speak on the cannabis urgency ordinance extension to request that they put the background check back into the ordinance.

   He is right. The Calaveras Sheriff's Office should be able to check and see if any worker on a cultivation site are felons from another state. Thank you Sheriff DiBasilio.

Planning says 150 commercial applicants and 47 personal grows in Calaveras

   The Planning Department of Calaveras County, as of June 20, 2016 has received 150 applications for permits for commercial grows at $5000 each totaling $750,000 so far.

Motorcycle crash on Hwy 99

   June 21, 2016 at 8:15 AM:  CHP are at the scene of a solo motorcycle crash on northbound Hwy 99 at the Hwy 4 interchange in Stockton.

   The cyclist had been reportedly speeding and splitting lanes prior to the crash. Fortunately, per CHP, only minor injuries resulted from this crash. A tow truck is responding for the motorcycle.

Transformer fire outside Sonora

   June 21, 2016 at  8:40 AM:  Several fire engines have been dispatched to a report of a transformer exploding and smoking at Lyons Bald Mountain Road and Greenley Road in the Sonora area.

  

Polls open June 23, 2016 for Brexit vote!

   Called the Brexit, England is voting Thursday, June 23, 2016 on whether to stay in the European Union (EU) or to exit and go back to their own system.

   Part of the desire to exit is based on a "trump-like" movement of isolationism and anti-immigrant feelings about jobs. 

Camanche Fire 95% contained

   The Camanche Fire, which started on June 17, 2016 reached 210 acres and is now 95% contained.

   This fire is on the Amador County side of Camanche. All evacuations have been lifted.

Leona M. "Nonie" Winchell

   Born on November 2, 1929 and passed away unexpectedly on July 14, 2016, Nonie was the daughter of Dean and Verna James and a longtime resident of Calaveras County.

Injured dog on Hwy 99 in Salida

   June 20, 2016 at 10:25 AM:  An injured dog has been reported in the #1 lane on northbound Hwy 99 at Pelandale Avenue in Salida.

Angels Camp Police arrest Stockton man

   On June 19, 2016 the Angels Camp Police Department arrested Ray Yin-Flores  of Stockton at Hwy 4 and Angels Oaks Drive in Angels Camp.

   Besides have an outstanding warrants in another area for alleged felony Firearms violation and Participation in Street Gangs, Yin-Flores was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for allegedly Providing False Identification to Officers, a misdemeanor.  

Over 1000 protest Baptist Church that praised Orlando shooting

   With over 1000 protesters outside, one with a megaphone, the Baptist Church in Sacramento where the pastor praised the killing of 49 people in Orlando, blocked cameras from the building.

    Some of the members of the church shouted back and waved insulting fingers at the crowd as they passed by, seeming to be in agreement with the pastors statements.

Illegal Shooting in White Pines

   On June 19, 2016 several residents in White Pines reported hearing illegal gunfire in the area and called the off-duty CHP for help. It was referred to the Calaveras Sheriff's Office.

   The Calaveras Sheriff's Office took no report of the incident.

Dalai Lama visiting Sacramento legislators

   With all the anger, violence, threats and harsh rhetoric coming from the right wing, tea party type racists from Trump on down, the Dalai Lama is hoping his visit to the California legislature will help bring peace.

   We wish him luck, but don't really feel there is any end in sight.

Suspicious activity at Black Bart Inn reported

   On June 19, 2016 a visitor at the Black Bart Inn in San Andreas called the Calaveras Sheriff to report suspicious activity, including concern for her safety and that off others.

   Apparently she made the Sheriff aware of kids hanging out and strange things going on, subjects hanging around the housekeeper, bringing male into room as she was cleaning another room, declining to report items stolen, requesting extra patrol and to forward to code compliance.  The Sheriff took no report.

Vandalism in Camp Connell

   On June 19, 2016 a resident on Sierra Parkway in Camp Connell reported vandalism to the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office.

   Their buildings, trees and even the asphalt had been spray painted. The Calaveras Sheriff took a report.  The answer is cameras. Put up cameras!!

27-year-old Star Trek actor killed by own car

   Anton Yelchin, the 27 year old who played Chekov in the new Star Trek movies was killed today when he was run over by his own car in his driveway. 

   Yelchin apparently did not realize the brakes were not on when he walked behind the car and it began rolling backwards, pinning him to a fence and cement mailbox.

NBA Championship game today

   The Warriors are at home in Oakland today for the final game in the NBA playoffs vs. the Cavaliers.
