Bernice Betty Whaley aka "the lunch-lady" went to be with the Lord on August 30, 2016 at the age of 92 1/2.
Bernice was born on March 10, 1924 in Madera and is of English
and Miwok Indian
heritage.
She spent her childhood in California between Klamath and Tulare where she met her husband Floyd and married at age 20.
They had 4 children and lived in Tuolumne and Calaveras counties for over 64 years.
Bernice was a dedicated member of the Union Congregational Church and was one of the original founders of the Altaville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Bea started the food program for Mark Twain and Bret Harte and served countless students for over 20 years.
She loved to play Bingo, loved the mountains, loved to travel and provided care and a listening ear wherever and whenever she was needed.
Bernice was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Whaley and brother Edward Dewhirst.
She is survived by her children Roberta Whaley, George Whaley, Brenda Whaley, and Eloise Cuslidge, grandchildren David, Dawn, Daniel, Valerie, Kristy, Kimberly and Alexis; and great-grandchildren Deanna, David, Stephen, Aiden, Hannah, Grant, Gavin Riley, Julianne and Faith.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Union Congregational Church at 1141 Main Street in Angels Camp on Friday September 9, 2016 at 11 AM, followed by a luncheon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the AMFD Ladies Auxiliaries c/o Eileen Davis, PO Box 312 Angels Camp 95222 or the Union Congregational Church PO Box 186 angels Camp 95222.
Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
