When the contract for the legal notices in Calaveras County came up this summer, the Valley Springs News was the only newspaper who bid on the RFP.
Then, after a private meeting with the owner of the Calaveras Enterprise, Shirley Ryan, CAO agreed to give the legals to the Enterprise anyway in order to save them from possible bankruptcy, as they would lose subscriptions.
Then, the SierraSentinel.com requested the legals be sent to us as well as the Enterprise. We just heard back from Shirley Ryan that she refuses.
This is continued corruption at the Calaveras County offices. If the county administration is going to send them to one publication as a special favor, they must also send them to any others who request them.
