CHP reports that on February 7, 2017 around 8:30 AM cars were lined up due to a traffic collision on Hwy 12 near Central Hill outside San Andreas.
An ambulance headed for the collision with lights and siren activated moved into the oncoming lane to go around backed up traffic.
In the mean time one driver decided to make a U-turn and go back the way they came, directly into the path of the ambulance.
The ambulance driver was unable to avoid the oncoming car and it was disabled by the collision, and then collided with another vehicle waiting in line.
CHP reminds all drivers to always be aware of approaching emergency vehicles, who have the right of way. Hwy 12 was blocked for approximately 45 minutes.
One person in the original collision suffered minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.
