On May 19, 2017 at approximately 5:05 PM, according to the CHP report, Monica Latzen (38) of Sacramento was driving a 2003 Toyota Tundra southbound on Ospital Road, approaching Live Oak Road in Burson at an unknown speed with passenger David Bonham (39) of Morago in the right front seat.
For an unknown reason the Toyota traveled off the roadway onto the west shoulder of Ospital Road.
Latzen steered the Toyota to the left, attempting to get the car back onto the roadway. She then lost control of the vehicle and it began to spin in a counterclockwise direction, while crossing Ospital Road.
The Toyota then traveled onto the east shoulder of Ospital Road, where it began to roll over, then collided with a large tree on the east shoulder.
Latzen was ejected from the Toyota and she was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision. Bonham had to be extricated from the Toyota by emergency personnel and was taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of major injuries.
It isn't known if alcohol or drugs were a factor. This collision is still under investigation.
