CHP reports that on May 27, 2017 at approximately 2 AM, Ulises Valencia (40) of Tracy was riding a 2015 Polaris Razor ATV on USFS Road 6N65 near USFS Road 6N64 above
Camp Connell in Ebbetts Pass.
CHP was notified of this collision at around 6 AM, due to cell phone coverage in the Murphys area. Benjamin Sanchez (63) of Richmond, was transported to Sonora Regional Hospital by friends with major injuries.
CHP responded to the hospital and contacted Mr Sanchez, who was later determined to be a passenger of Valencia's on the ATV.
The investigating officer then responded to the location where the parties were camping and contacted the driver (Valencia) who related the following:
At approximately 2 AM he was driving the ATV eastbound on USFS Road 6N65 when they came across a tree that was blocking the roadway.
Valencia was making a U-turn when the ATV hit a rut and overturned onto the passenger side. Sanchez stuck his arm out to block the fall, but in doing so got his arm caught under the overturning vehicle.
Due to the amount of time elapsed between the collision ad contact with the driver, it is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs was a contributing factor in this collision.
