UPDATE: The names of the victims in this collision are Sarah Rohde (27) and her 19 month old daughter Ariana. The bear, who was also killed, was not known to have a name.
According to CHP on
November 23, 2017 at approximately 6 PM a 2002 Subaru struck a bear on Hwy 4
near Holiday Mine Road in the Douglas Flat area.
The bear was killed and the force of the impact with the bear caused major intrusion int the passenger compartment of the vehicle.
The driver and her 19 month old passenger sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision. The four year old passenger received minor injuries and was flown to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment.
Alcohol and or drugs are not believed to be a factor in this collision. Names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

This is awful both for the bear and the people. If you have a little car like this, you should probably stay in at night. I'll take a big truck any day.

This has been reported by other publications that it was a brown bear, which it was not. That it happened Friday, which it did not and other errors.
