Letter to the Editor: What is an originalist?

   Dear Sierra Sentinel:

   During the past week I watched as much of the Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court hearings as I could and one thing kind of answered all my questions about him.

   He admitted to being what is called
"an originalist" judge, meaning he interprets the constitution as the Founding Fathers originally intended, he says.

   What this really means is that he will judge everything as if "all men are created equal" to mean only white males, because black men were not considered even human, just chattel.

   And women not only were not allowed to vote, but they didn't allow them to own property,
therefore the 'all MEN are created equal".  I, therefore, can see that an "originalist" is an evil and backward angry male chauvinist!

   Is that what we want for our Supreme Court?  I was appalled, but should not be surprised, since Trump's whole message has been to make America Great Again (like it was before blacks or women had any rights!)

   I failed to vote in the 2016 election. I have learned my lesson and will NEVER fail to vote again.
