Matthew Richard Manuel was born in Stockton on March 28, 1943 to John and Esther Manuel and passed away on March 2, 2019 in San Andreas.
The first years of his life he lived with his parents and older brother at the Manuel Mill
(which his grandfather owned) in White Pines.
Before he started school they moved to San Leandro where Matt grew up and stayed through high
school.
Matt's favorite memories of childhood were the times he spent with his father, especially deer hunting.
He has had many interests in his life; raising pigeons when he was young; playing tennis in his adulthood and as a teenager, working on his car so he could race on weekends.
Matt worked for AT&T for 30 years and in his spare time played baseball, football and including golf, participating in many tournaments.
Matt loved duck hunting, deer hunting and fishing and has many memories of sharing those with friends.
After he retired from AT&T, he divorced and moved to Fremont, then decided to go back to work. He drove bus for Sun Micro-Systems, was a park ranger for the City of Fremont and drove school bus for Fremont Unified, where he met his future wife, Vivian.
In 2002 they decided to move to Arnold, close to the Manuel Mill site. He loved Arnold and the simple, easy life he and Vivian created.
What he enjoyed most was cutting firewood, which he a Vivian did in wood season every Sunday morning, always giving some to those in need.
Matt was a diehard Green Bay Packer fan, and was always a great cook, just like his father.
In 2010 Matt had a severe stroke which made it impossible for him to do the things he enjoyed, one being home with Vivian and his cat Chuck.
Unfortunately, the last 3 1/2 months of his life were spent either in a hospital or at Avalon Convalescent Care.
Matt is survived by his wife Vivian, his son Rich, grandson James and great-grandson Conner, Vivians 7 children and 18 grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brother John, niece Cathy, nephews John, Kevin, Mike and Matt and their families, along with other family members in the Arnold area.
A Memorial Service will be held at Angels Memorial Chapel in Angels Camp at 11 AM on March 23, 2019. Private Internment will be held at Buena Vista Cemetery in Murphys.
