Supervisor Callaway asks for more COVID information

At the June 23, 2020 Calaveras Supervisor meeting, Merita Callaway asked the Health Department why they do not post
test results daily and where the positive cases were traced.

Dr. Kelaita stated that he didn't think the public needed gossip about who and how they got the virus.

We don't think that was appropriate, with the worry many have of getting the virus.  This is not GOSSIP, doctor!

Good for Merita - This is troubling - we need far more transparency in Covid-19 activity in our County. How do we know if we came in contact with theses new cases if we are not told who they are and the possible source of their contact. Are these new cases showing up from the testing facility? Since most the cases are in the western side of the County why is testing at the fair grounds in Angels Camp? By withholding important info on Covid-19 leads us to believe the health director is attempting to control the news, therefore our behavior?

Transparency means your not hiding anything! the lack of transparency means the opposite. . .

We need more information on Covid activity in our county. I'm disappointed in the Health Directors approach, withholding needed information while attempting to control our behavior - this is not his job - maybe Merita should un-appoint him. . .

Well since your on the subject of transparency! And I agree with the comments above, How about a little more transparency on our New Commercial Cannabis Ordinance? There's literally no information coming from the Office of Cannabis Control on how well this program is going, cost vs income. We are expecting a huge revenue stream from this undertaking that the BOS spent most of last year bringing forward. If this program is not successful than we need to know the facts - the residents contribute a lot to the general fund in property taxes and sales tax etc., so its a lot of our money your spending. The lack of transparency reeks of program failure. The growers have put up with a lot of county indecision and incompetence on this venture - if we have created another unworkable Commercial Cannabis Ordinance we have set ourselves up for even more lawsuits. Transparency Please - Merita go to bat for us on this one too. . .
