Kenneth Carnes (43) of Oakdale allegedly assaulted the victim, using a knife to the victim's throat. They did not locate Carnes at his residence in Copperopolis.
Carnes was observed by a deputy at the home next door. Deputies located Carnes hiding in a closet and he was arrested without further incident.
He was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for two alleged counts of burglary, false imprisonment with violence, assault with a deadly weapon, drug possession and 5 knives.
Carnes is being held without bail, and he apparently has a felony warrant out of Stanislaus County.
The Calaveras Sheriff's Office reminds residents to carefully secure their homes when they leave.
