Motorcycle rider dies in CHP chase

  :On March 6, 2022 around 6:25 PM and CHP officer in Murphys observed a 2021 Harley Davidson

run a stop sign. The rider fled with the officer in pursuit.

   The motorcycle drove west on Hwy 4, heading for Vallecito. Deana Capuro (49) of Bay Point was driving her 2014 Audi in the opposite direction when the cyclist failed to make a turn and crossed the double yellow line, striking the Audi head-on.

   The cyclist was ejected and although the CHP officer and another motorist tried to save the rider, he succumbed to his injuries.

   The driver of the Audi sustained minor injuries and declined an ambulance. A passenger in the Audi was transported to Mark Twain Medical Center for minor injuries.

   The use of alcohol or drugs in this collision is under investigation.  The identification of the cyclist is pending notification of next of kin.
