According to the CHP report on July 1, 2022 dispatchers received a report of a traffic
collision with a vehicle down the embankment at 6:27 AM.Upon arrival at the scene, first responders located a solo vehicle that had overturned, approximately 150' down an embankment.
The solo occupant had been ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. and the Calaveras Coroner was called to the scene.
Preliminary investigation show the the male was traveling south on Hwy 49 near Redhill Road, when for an unkown reason the driver failed to follow a curve in the roadway.
The vehicle traveled off the roadway and overturned an unknown amount of times, ejecting the unrestrained driver.
The vehicle came to rest on its wheels, off of the roadway. Due to the darkness and location of the vehicle it is unknown the exact time of the collision.
It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor in this collision. The name of the driver is being withheld until positive identification and next of kin are notified.
