Weapons arrest in Valley Springs

    On October 2, 2023 around 2 PM the Calaveras Sheriff and Probation departments did a

compliance check on Rose Street in Valley Springs.

   They discovered a rifle, a revolver and ammunition inside the residence, which was prohibited for those residing.

   Megan Newman, age 32 of Valley Springs, was found hiding inside the residence and an outstanding warrant was discovered.

   Ronald Lance, age 62, of Valley Springs was prohibited from possessing both firearms and ammunition, per the Sheriff. The rifle's serial number had been removed unlawfully.

   Both Lance and Newman were arrested and booked into Calaveras County Jail; Lance charged with alleged felony illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, as well as altering the serial number, while Newman was booked for an outstanding alleged felony warrant.
