Collision on Hwy 4--roadway blocked

    August 30, 2024 at 9:50 AM:  A semi and and pickup have collided on Hwy 4 near Horseshoe Drive in Copperopolis.

  The roadway may be blocked for over an hour.  Apparently the semi jackknifed. No injuries have been indicated.

    Be extra cautious and watch for timber rattlers. We just learned someone's dog in Meadowmont was bitten yesterday.

   They are very active right now, and can be found hiding in woodpiles and under canvas tarps. If bitten, get to a doctor or take your dog to the vet right away.

State Park vehicle in collision

Three vehicle collision in Murphys

    August 26, 2024 at 12:20 PM:  A traffic collision between a white Acura, a silver sedan and a dark grey SUV has been reported on Main Street at French Gulch Road in Murphys.

   An ambulance is responding to the scene. The roadway is blocked.

Fire in Jenny Lind

    August 26, 2024 at 9:45 AM:  A grass fire has been reported on Hwy 26 at Wimer Road in Jenny Lind.

   Several units, water tenders, dozers, and air have been alerted and dispatched to this fire.

School bus hits power pole

    August 26, 2024 at 9:15 AM:  A school bus has struck a power pole at Argonaut High School in Jackson.

   No injuries have been indicated.

    August 24, 2024 at 8:45 AM:  A traffic collision has been reported on Hwy 26 at Vista del Lago Drive in Rancho Calaveras.

   Apparently a vehicle has struck a stop sign at that location. No injuries have been indicate.

    August 23, 2024 at 3:45 PM:  A traffic collision has been reported at Obyrnes Ferry Road and Shotgun Creek Road in Jamestown.

Wagon Trail on Calaveras Supervisor agenda

   At the August 27, 2024 Calaveras Supervisors meeting, a report on the Wagon Trail project is on the agenda.

   The Highway 4 improvement project between Copperopolis and Angels Camp has been laden with problems and not much work is being done currently.

Cows on Hwy 49

    August 21, 2024 at 7:35 AM:  About a dozen cows are reportedly out on Hwy 49 near Fourths Crossing outside San Andreas.

   CHP is attempting to locate the owner, but be extra cautious if heading in that direction.

    August 17, 2024 at 8:20 AM:  A traffic  collision resulting in an overturned car has been reported on Stormy Lane, just off Hwy 26 in Glencoe.

   The vehicle is currently on its side. Injuries are minor. a tow truck is responding.

Notebook star Gena Rowlands dies

    Gina Rowlands, who played the older Allie in the movie The Notebook, has died at the age of 94.

   She had been diagnosed with dementia. Rowlands also appeared in many other movies over the years.

    On the August 13, 2024 Board of Supervisors agenda today, it was announced that Calaveras Sheriff Rick DeBasilio is retiring.

  Rachel Whiting was chosen to replace DeBasilio until the next election.

Collision in Milton

   August 13, 2024 at 9:10 AM:  Fire department has been dispatched out to Hwy 4 and Milton Road in Milton for an overturned car in a dry field.

   The original accident occured around 6:30 AM and there were minor injuries in the rollover.

Collision on Hwy 49

    August 11, 2024 at 9:35 AM:  A car has reportedy run off Hwy 49 at Hwy 16 outside Plymouth.

   It has been indicated that the car was swerving before losing control. An ambulance is responding to the scene.

Summit Fire in Railroad Flat

    As of 7 AM August 11, 2024 the Summit Fire at Summit Road and Railroad Flat Road is 30 acres.

   Started in August 10, 2024, the cause has not yet been determined. Containment is still listed at 0%, but forward progress has apparently been stopped.

Evacuations difficult in Canyon Fire

    August 9, 2024 at 11 AM:  Evacuations of the entire area of Tuolumne City is not easy. The band of Me-Wuks and most other areas of town are being removed.

   At least one power line is down and one road is blocked due to trash being dumped from an evacuees truck.

Box truck crash

    August 9, 2024 at 7:50 AM:  A United box truck and a small sedan have reportedly crashed at Hwy 108 and J59 in Jamestown.

   Air ambulances are responding to the scene. The roadway is blocked. The box truck is leaking fluid.

    UPDATE:  Road closures are in place on Gerber and Buchanan.

Crozier Fire grows

    August 7, 2024 at 11:30 AM:  The Crozier Fire, which started in the middle of the night, has grown quickly to 182 acres.

   Multiple air and ground resources are attempting to control this fire above Placerville.

   August 6, 2024 at 9:45 AM:  A traffic collision has been reported on Oak Circle in Arnold.

   An ambulance is responding to the scene.

10,000 more acres?

   August 6, 2024:  Overnight the Park Fire has gained another 10,000 acres plus. The town of Mill Creek has been evacuated.

   The total acreage in this fire is now 414,042. It is 34% contained.  636 homes have been destroyed.

Fire in Angels Camp

    August 4, 2024 at 2:40 PM:  A grass fire has been reported on Hwy 4 in Angels Camp.

   Several engines, air support, water tenders, dozers, etc. are responding.  This is near Appaloosa.

Governor Newsome refuses pay raise

    August 2, 2024:  Governor Gavin Newsome has written a letter refusing his approved 3.5% pay raise which would have taken effect at the end of this year.

   He indicates that severe budget concerns in California are the reason he feels he should share in the cuts.
